Perspectives in Sacred Space: Gender, Race, and Religion with Maryam Eskandari [Past Event]

This series, hosted by Dr. Michael Crosbie, will bring in experts from the fields of architecture and religion to reflect on the intersections of form, culture, and belief.  Notable guests include award-winning architects and scholars Dr. Tammy Gaber; William Stanley III, AIA; Maryam Eskandari, AIA; and more.

This session features Maryam Eskandari.  Maryam Eskandari is the founder of MIIM Designs – a multidisciplinary studio in the vanguard of creating sacred spaces that address contemporary needs through sustainable materials – and focuses on creating architecture that isn't merely beautiful or functional but that also gives communities an opportunity for inclusive transformation and cultural dialogue. Her work has been recognized with notable awards, including a two-time recipient for the National Endowment for the Arts, Doris Duke Award in Architecture, Harvard Alumni Association Award in Architecture and Design, and Women Entrepreneur Award presented at the White House under President Barack Obama. Eskandari has taught at Harvard University, Boston Architectural College, and California State Polytechnic University Pomona. She served as a Founding Board Member for Open Architecture Collaborative, Harvard’s FDR Foundation, and is on the Advisory Board for CleanAcwa - Ghana, and the 1947 Partition Archives - India.
