About the Event

In Sufism, the MTO school is called Khaneghah or Khaneh-gah, which literally means the “House of Present.”  The building also contains 8 angles/sides to represent the 8 principles of Sufism.

But what are those 8 principles?  And how is one guided on the journey to self-knowledge according to the Sufi Masters?  Come and learn about this fascinating Islamic school, and more about its beliefs, practices, and community through an in-depth architectural/spiritual tour.  At this sacred site visit, you will have the chance to learn about Sufi beliefs and practices, engage in an in-depth religious/architectural tour, witness a ritual, learn about this congregation's community history, hear individual spiritual journeys, and enjoy a delicious dinner!

In the Greater Dallas area? Come and meet your neighbors!

This will be an interfaith visit with representatives from at least 7 different religions present to explore the sacred space of the MTO School of Islamic Sufism. This visit is run by Sharing Sacred Spaces in partnership with Thanks-Giving Foundation and local congregational partners, and is part of the Interreligious Communities Project, Dallas, TX.  There will be 8 visits to different sacred spaces as part of this program over the course of 2024-2025.  There will be 8 "experiences" in fact; not just visits.  We go deep into the architectural design of each space which opens up new avenues for connecting the material and the spiritual.  Members of each congregation will also share about their worldview, spiritual journeys, and history.  We then share a meal and dialogue.  Join us for this one visit or all of them!  Click here to see the full schedule of visits for the year.

This visit to the MTO School is sixth in the series of sacred site visits and we hope to see you there!

Please note this etiquette for visiting the MTO School of Sufism:

  • Khaneghah (M.T.O. School of Sufism®) has its own etiquette. Social norms have no value in Khaneghah. The colors of the outside world lose their desirability compared to the purity and attraction of Khaneghah. The student wears a simple white outfit with no pattern with the goal to be pure. Upon entrance, one removes his/her shoes. This represents leaving behind all worldly belongings and attachments. With total presence, the seekers focus on their inner journey.
