About the Event
LDS Church members first arrived in Texas in 1845, only 15 years after the church was formally organized by founder Joseph Smith. There are now over 370,000 members in Texas and more than 17 million worldwide!
With a unique architecture, we can learn alot about this vibrant and growing faith and its followers through exploration of this gorgeous sacred space.
At this sacred site visit, you will have the chance to learn about basic LDS beliefs and practices, engage in an in-depth religious/architectural tour, witness a ritual, learn about this congregation's community history, hear individual spiritual journeys, and enjoy a delicious dinner!
In the Greater Dallas area? Come and meet your neighbors!
This will be an interfaith visit with representatives from at least 7 different religions present to explore the sacred space of the LDS Dallas Temple. This visit is run by Sharing Sacred Spaces in partnership with Thanks-Giving Foundation and local congregational partners, and is part of the Interreligious Communities Project, Dallas, TX. There will be 8 visits to different sacred spaces as part of this program over the course of 2024-2025. There will be 8 "experiences" in fact; not just visits. We go deep into the architectural design of each space which opens up new avenues for connecting the material and the spiritual. Members of each congregation will also share about their worldview, spiritual journeys, and history. We then share a meal and dialogue. Join us for this one visit or all of them! Click here to see the full schedule of visits for the year.
This visit to the Temple is fifth in the series of sacred site visits and we hope to see you there!
Please note this etiquette for visiting the Temple:
- Temples are set apart and dedicated for sacred services and symbolic ceremonies. Temple attendance is reserved for members holding a temple “recommend” indicating their willingness to follow and keep certain standards. Reverence and respect should be exhibited when visiting temple grounds which are open to visitors.
