Dr. Celene Ibrahim

Dr. Celene Ibrahim is a multidisciplinary scholar and specialist in Islamic intellectual history, gender studies, interreligious studies, and contemporary Muslim theology. She is best known for Women and Gender in the Qur'an (Oxford University Press, 2020), which won the Association of Middle East Women's Studies Book Award. She authored Islam and Monotheism, an accessible primer on Islamic theology (Cambridge University Press, 2022) and edited One Nation, Indivisible: Seeking Liberty and Justice from the Pulpit to the Streets (Wipf & Stock, 2019). She has published dozens of scholarly publications exploring Qur’anic hermeneutics, feminist theology, and interfaith collaboration.

 

Ibrahim teaches religious studies, philosophy, and history on the faculty of Groton School and is the School's first Muslim Chaplain. She is a frequent radio and podcast contributor and is featured in the Netflix docudrama Testament: The Story of Moses (2024) and most recently in Islam's Greatest Stories of Love, a film by Unity Productions (2025).
